THIS WEEK :
 
Our August 11th Breakfast Meeting was held at Ruby’s 8:00AM
 
Call to Order was followed by a Patriotic Song and
Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Invocation: “We give thanks for our friendships, fellowship, safety and everything we are given.  Health and happiness to all. Amen.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
 
  • HAPPY 90TH TO COBURN “COBY “ ELLINGWOOD!
A special presentation was made by Pam Dwyer and a beautiful Birthday cake was presented to him along with a flood of complimentary speeches.  “Happy Birthday dear Coby !!”
 
  • The YMCA/AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
was held on Saturday, August 6 and special thanks to President Jason Mehler and Dr. Ann Edwards for volunteering and making this event a success.
 
  • THE RYE/HARRISON SPORTSMANSHIP LUNCHEON
Will be held on Friday, September 9 at 12 Noon at the Whitby Castle.  Speakers will be Coach Harold Crocker and former NYGiant Patrick Morrison.
 
Rye Rotary is sponsoring this luncheon and we are expecting over 50 guests.  We have invited 23 guests .
Cost is $30 per person.
 
  • COCKTAIL PARTY AT THE WHITBY CASTLE. 
Wednesday, August 24th  6:00 – 7:30 PM

Our Golf Outing will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at Apawamis Club headed up by Rich Martinelli and Raul Bello

  • DISTRICT GOVERNOR Lora Hugelmeyer welcomed out guests from India and spoke of her activities and events at the district level.
     
    We are honored to have District Governor Lora Hugelmeyer as a member of the Rye Rotary Club
 
  • Our first EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE meeting is scheduled  for FRIDAY, SEPT. 9 AT 11 AM AT THE WHITBY CASTLE
    (BEFORE THE SPORTSMANSHIP LUNCHEON)
     
Mount Kisco Rotary President Bruce Desmond gave an update on his club’s events.  He is inviting all of his members to attend our Golf Outing dinner on TUESDAY, SEPT. 27th at the APAWAMIS CLUB.
 
Guest Rotarian Dr. Rajendr Agarwal from Mumbai, India spoke to our Club briefly on his club’s activities in India
 
Guest Rotarian Jain Manohar (ID 3141 India) and his daughter, Charul Kothari spoke about their involvement with their clubs.
 
Julie Kattan mentioned her parents’ 60th Wedding Anniversary is coming up soon and she spoke about her father, Dr. Joseph Soury, a beloved longtime member of  Rye Rotary, former Rye Rotary  President and former esteemed Rye Midland School Principal.

Julie has graciously accepted heading up a new committee to update the Rye Rotary By-Laws.  Thank you Julie.
 
Lastly, Jason says guests are always welcome and encouraged to attend our meetings and events.
 
GUEST SPEAKER:
 
President Jason welcomed our Guest Speaker Arthur Stampleman who conducted a current events discussion. 
 
Arthur gave out a  handout containing the following questions:
 
1.Which is the bigger problem for the US political process: Gerrymandering or the Citizens United Supreme Court decision ?
 
2. Why weren’t there better presidential candidates this year ?
 
3. Inequality in income and wealth in the US is too large and growing, a situation which is unacceptable: YES OR NO
 
4. Rye residents have reason to be unsettled by Crown Castle’s application to install 64 mini cell towers in residential areas throughout our community:  YES OR NO
 
5. Trade Agreement do not benefit the US Congress should not OK the Trans-Pacific Trade Agreement and should cancel NAFTA: YES OR NO
